Shell’s latest breakthrough fuel is now available nationwide! Shell FuelSave Unleaded 95 and 97 were launched in Sarawak and Sabah on 3rd and 4th March 2010 respectively .
Present at the launch events were En Azman Ismail, Managing Director of Shell Trading Sdn Bhd and Director of Shell Timur Sdn Bhd; Mr Leslie Ng, National Retail Sales Manager; and Mr Eric Holthusen a.k.a Dr Fuels, Fuel Technology Manager Asia Pacific, Shell Global Solutions. Also present were the Regional Retail Sales Managers for the respective states; Mr Kenny Ku for Sarawak and Mr Choe Foo Lung for Sabah. Each launch event was attended by over 80 friends from the media and local Shell dealers.
Fahrin Ahmad, was also onsite for meet and greet sessions with Shell dealers and to participate in the Shell Convoys through the respective cities. During the convoy, the Shell contingent made pit stops at select Shell stations where they handed out Shell bags brimming with goodies to customers. And at each station, Fahrin was also seen signing limited edition posters, posing for photos with Shell fans and sharing with them the Shell FuelSave Tips.
Kota Kinabalu’s welcome was as warm as Kuching’s! The Shell convoy route included stops at three Shell locations and at each station, the Shell contingent were greeted with a taste of the local flavor in the form of cultural performance e.g. Lion Dance, Iban and the Kadazan traditional dances. Enjoying the merriment of the day, En Azman was also seen trying his hand at doing the Iban dance! Also out in support was YB Datuk Jainab Ahmad, Assistant Minister of Resources Development & Information Technology and Assemblywoman for Karambunai constituency. Similar to the convoy in Kuching, fans of Fahrin were also out in droves for a chance to meet their favorite Shell Ambassador.
It was indeed an eventful 2-day celebration in culturally rich East Malaysia. Do stay tuned as Shell will soon be announcing the rollout of the Shell 1 Liter Challenge in East Malaysia.
In Kuching, the Shell Convoy boasted a record line up of 20 cars! The convoy was led by En Azman seated in a sleek Audi TT which was also jointly supported by the Kuching Myvi Club members. The convoy included stops at five Shell stations with the clarion call of ‘Make some noise!’ the theme during the drive. Indeed a resounding success as the convoy garnered mass attention and whistle blowing from the community.
Johorian Wins Title of Malaysia’s First Shell FuelSave National Champion by only 0.288km
The wait is finally over! The stage was set, the FuelSave vehicles gassed and ready to go!
On Saturday Dec 12, 2009, Mr. Jason Lai Tsung Yung, 24, from Johor was crowned National Champion of Shell 1 Litre Challenge when he travelled 21.344km on just 1 litre of Shell FuelSave. The Shell 1 Litre Challenge was designed to demonstrate and put into context just how far one could go using only 1 Litre of fuel and boy did it do just that!
Recent graduate from Monash University, Mr Lai defeated the closest competitor by only 0.288km with the average distance travelled by all six State Winners at 19.251km. As a little difference goes a long way, Mr Lai walked away with the grand prize valued at RM 50,000.
Held at The Saujana Hotel in Subang, the Shell 1 Litre Challenge - National Finals brought together all six state winners under one roof to compete for the coveted title of Malaysia’s first Shell 1 Litre Challenge champion! It was officially launched amidst cheers from family and friends of the six state winners, a drum performance by Hands Percussion and a video presentation from the Shell Fuel Economy vault.
Despite being a closed door event, guests were not deterred in displaying their excitement of this much awaited event and as such were quite eager, and of course vocal, in their demonstrate their support of their chosen State Winner! In fact Shell dealers including Shell territory managers also made the trek to Selangor to show their support of their representative! In a show of exuberance and pomp, National Finals attendees were repeatedly seen stamping their feet, clapping, cheering and waving their respective state flags. It was an indeed an event not to be missed.
At around 11a.m., all six State Winners converged at the starting point where they were flagged off by Dato’ Mohzani Abdul Wahab, Managing Director, Shell Malaysia Trading Sdn Bhd and Shell Timur Sdn Bhd , Mr Eric Holthusen (Dr Fuels), Fuel Manager, Asia / Pacific and Middle East, Shell Global Solutions; and Shell FuelSave Ambassador Fahrin Ahmad. State Winners were tasked to drive along a pre-determined route (representing a normal day’s journey) from The Saujana Hotel, Subang to the Kota Damansara exit (via the NKVE highway) and returned to the starting point. Each participant drove a Fuel Save vehicle – Honda Civic 1.8L (A) 2007/08 - equipped with a FuelSave monitoring device that calculates the distance travelled (km), average speed, average fuel consumption, and elapsed time.
While guests waited for the results of the Challenge, they were presented with a scrumptious spread of local and western cuisine, entertained with the musical styling's of Tokyo Blues (local R&B group), a meet the fan session with Fahrin Ahmad and the chance to also win fantastic prizes in the Shell Rank & Win Contest.
The waiting came to an end when the first car arrived 30 minutes later. Shortly after, the Saujana Grand Ballroom was again filled with high energy and exuberance as the six took to the stage for the final time. As the placements were announced, it soon became obvious that the Southern region finalists were going to place in the top two spots.
Silence soon descended on the ballroom as the announcement of who would be the National Champion. Within seconds, the air of anticipated changed to thundering applause and cheer from family, friends and Shell team members when Mr Lai was announced the Shell 1 FuelSave National Champion! Malacca’s Syamsul Azwan Bin Mustar came in second, short of 0.288km.
